Privacy Policy
Effective 19 September 2026 · applies to the Bathroom Code web app and the Bathroom Code Android app, which shows the same web app.
Bathroom Code is a free, crowdsourced directory of public restroom door codes. It has no accounts, no advertising and no third-party analytics. This page explains the little data it does handle.
Your location
To find restrooms near you, the app reads your device's location (with your permission) and sends your current latitude and longitude to our server when it asks for the nearby list. The position is used to answer that request and, when you vote on a code, to check that you are within 1 km of the restroom. Your location history is not stored and is never linked to an identity. The compass pointer runs entirely on your device using its position and orientation sensors.
Anonymous device token
The first time you use the app it creates a random token that is stored on your device. It identifies your device to the server so that points, votes and daily limits work. It is not tied to your name, email, phone number or any account, and you can discard it at any time by clearing the app's site data.
Things you submit
Restroom locations, names, door codes, ratings, comments and reports you submit are the whole point of the service: they are public and shown to every user. They are stored with your anonymous device token so your points can be counted. Please do not include personal information in names or comments.
Technical data
- Your IP address is used momentarily by the server for rate limiting and is not written to the database.
- The map is drawn from OpenFreeMap tiles; loading them sends the usual web request (IP address, map area) to that service.
- The site is delivered through Cloudflare, which handles requests under its own privacy policy.
- The app caches its files and your last nearby list on your device so it keeps working offline.
Sharing
We do not sell or share data with anyone, other than the public submissions described above and the service providers named above that are needed to deliver the app.
Children
The app is intended for adults and is not directed at children under 13.
Deletion and questions
Because nothing identifies you, there is no account to delete. If you want a specific submission removed, or have any question about this policy, contact the developer using the email address on the app's Google Play listing.
Changes to this policy will be posted on this page with a new effective date.
