Grade

Grade source GPS uses one altitude point per fix. The terrain DEM option samples the tiles every ~5 m along the driven path instead. Tap the grade figure to swap. Filter strength Grade is the least-squares slope of elevation over a trailing distance window (48 m × factor, stretched to cover at least 3 fixes), then smoothed in the distance domain with a 12 m × factor lag. Light = 0.6×, medium = 1×, heavy = 1.7×. Auto follows a smooth curve through light at 25 mph, medium at 45, heavy at 60 and 3.4× at 80 mph, rising further above that. It holds its value while stopped.

GPS altitude

Browser Geolocation API coords.altitude — the vehicle's GNSS fix as exposed by the browser. Height above the WGS84 ellipsoid on most platforms (may differ from mean sea level by ±50 m). Accuracy from altitudeAccuracy.

DEM·AWS — Terrain Tiles

AWS Open Data "Terrain Tiles" (Mapzen/Tilezen Joerd), Terrarium PNG encoding, zoom 15, bilinear interpolation between pixel centres. Free, keyless, no rate limit. Height above mean sea level.

Decode: elev_m = R·256 + G + B/256 − 32768

DEM·OM — Open-Meteo

Fallback when tiles fail: Open-Meteo Elevation API (Copernicus DEM GLO-90, 90 m). Free, keyless, ≤100 points/call, 10 000 calls/day.
