Earth is the third planet from the Sun and the third largest. Earth orbits the Sun at a distance of 93 million miles, has a diameter of 7932 miles and a mass of 5.972e24kg. Earth is the only planet whose name is not from either Roman or Greek mythology. The planet Earth is the most dense major body in the Solar System. The Earth's surface is 71 percent water, the rest is land. The Earth's atmosphere is 77 percent nitrogen and 21 percent oxygen with traces of other gases. The Earth only has one natural satellite but thousands of artificial ones have been placed there by humans.
