Mercury

Mercury is the closest planet to the sun and is eighth largest. Mercury orbits the Sun at a distance of 36 million miles (.38 AU), has a diameter of 3032 miles and has a mass of 3.03e23kg. Mercury is named after the Roman god of travel, commerce and thievery. Mercury has been known about since at least the 3rd millennium BC. Mercury has only been visited by one spacecraft and only 45% of its surface was mapped. Mercury has three days per two years. The temperature variation on Mercury is the most extreme in the Solar System.
