Neptune is the eighth planet from the sun and third largest by mass. Neptune has an orbit of 2.8 billion miles (30 AU) from the sun. Neptune's diameter is 30,000 miles when measured at the equator and has a mass of 1.0247e26kg. Neptune is named after the god of the sea. Neptune was visited by Voyager 2 on August 25, 1989. Most of what we know comes from this one visit. Neptune can be seen with a good pair of binoculars or with a telescope.
