Chapter 19: Communication Link

Sending and receiving programs, lists and other variables between calculators or a computer with a link cable. In the emulator, files take the place of the cable.

Emulator A browser has no link port, so the LINK menu (2nd LINK) is not emulated. Use the Import… and Export… buttons instead: they read and write the same .8xp, .8xl, .8xm and other TI files that a link cable transfers, so you can move programs and data to and from a real calculator with TI Connect™ CE.

Linking in the emulatorp. 344

On a real TI-84 Plus Silver Edition, 2ndLINK opens the LINK menu for sending variables to another calculator or a computer over a USB or I/O cable, and the RECEIVE menu waits for incoming data.

The emulator runs in a web browser, which has no link port. Instead, the toolbar at the top right of the page moves data in and out:

  • Import… loads TI variable files (.8xp programs, .8xl lists, .8xm matrices, .8xs strings, .8xn real numbers, .8xy Y= functions, .8xg groups and more) into the calculator.
  • Export… saves programs and variables as the same file types, ready to send to a real calculator with TI Connect™ CE.
Note Groups created with MEM 8:Group can be exported and imported as a single .8xg file — the emulator equivalent of sending a group over the cable (Grouping and ungrouping).
